What on-grid solar does

A grid-connected system supplies solar electricity to your property and exchanges energy with the grid through the approved meter. A standard grid-tied inverter switches off during a power cut, so on-grid solar alone does not provide backup.

What changes with hybrid and batteries

A suitable hybrid system can support selected circuits during outages using an approved inverter, battery and electrical design. Battery capacity, usable depth of discharge, inverter output and surge demand determine what can run and for how long.

Begin with essential loads

List lights, fans, internet equipment, refrigeration and any other critical circuits. Record power and required runtime. Starting loads from motors and compressors can exceed steady consumption, so equipment selection needs more than a daily-unit calculation.

Compare the complete lifecycle cost

A useful hybrid proposal explains the battery warranty, expected maintenance, monitoring and how backup starts during an outage. Battery costs are separate from the household solar subsidy calculation unless the relevant scheme specifically covers them.
